Mission and Goals
| Mission Statement: | Pediatric Committee of the American Spinal Injury Association |
The mission of the pediatric committee of the American Spinal Injury Association is to promote and establish standards for best practice in pediatric spinal cord injury (SCI) care, to provide education relevant to the care of children and youth with SCI and; to support the conduct of research in pediatric SCI.
Goals 2011-2013
- Establish Guidelines for Best Practice for Health Care, Rehabilitation and Habilitation of Children and Youths with Spinal Cord Injury
- Guidelines for Medical Management of Children with SCI from the Episode of Injury to Discharge from the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit
- Guidelines for Wheeled and Upright Mobility for Children with Spinal Cord Injury
- Medical and Rehabilitation Management of Non-Traumatic Pediatric Spinal Cord Injury
- Guidelines for the Management of Pain and Pain Syndromes in Pediatric Spinal Cord Injury
- Guidelines for Musculoskeletal Monitoring and Management of Children with Spinal Cord Injury
- Create linkages to CORE Guidelines that have been established
- Neurogenic Bladder CORE by Shriners Hospitals
- Transition Guidelines by Shriners Hospitals
- Autonomic Dysreflexia by Shriners Hospitals
- Validate and conduct pediatric reliability studies of the Basic SCI International Data Sets
- Create a library on the Pediatric ASIA Website of Critical Appraisals of the Literature on focused clinical questions
- Provide expert peer review for the abstracts submitted for the 2012 Howard H. Steel Conference on Pediatric SCI
- Establish Pediatric Presence at Annual Meeting
- Define a Plan for the Pediatric Committee Involvement in the 40th Anniversary of ASIA
