Program to fund Research and Education Projects
The G. Heiner Sell Research and Education Fund offers a funding opportunity available to all ASIA members and other qualified spinal cord injury health care providers. Up to $5,000 will be awarded annually to support a research or educational project. Proposal receipt date will be February 1 annually. GUIDELINES
All active members of ASIA as well as other qualified spinal cord injury health care providers are eligible to apply for funding.
The Research Committee reviews proposals once a year. Proposals must be received by the ASIA Office no later than February 1 of each year. There are no exceptions.
AWARDS
Awards will be made for a period of one year. The same project may be renewed for one additional year only. The maximum amount of funds allocated for each project is $5,000 annually. The maximum indirect cost (overhead) allowable is 10% and will be included in the funded amount. The number of funded projects will depend on available financial resources of the Fund and the number of approved projects.
Applicants will be notified of the decision of the ASIA Board in May of each year. Funds will be allocated to approved projects in June.

REQUIREMENTS
The proposal must be submitted via email (Pat_Duncan@shepherd.org) to the ASIA Office. The GHS-REF Program to Fund Education Projects application form must be filled out and submitted.
For an institutional application, signature of the authorized official of the applicant organization must be included.
The length of the proposal narrative is limited to 5 pages. All support documents (appendices) should be limited to three (3). Proposals should include the following components:
* Description of the Education or Research Project
* Goals and Objectives of the Project
* Relevance to Spinal Cord Injury
* Project Plan: Method, Facilities, Timetable, Personnel
* Budget
REPORTING OBLIGATIONS
Approved awards must comply with the following requirements:
* A project report must be submitted to the ASIA Office at the completion of the project. This report should contain a financial statement of funds received and expenditures for the project. Any unexpended funds must be returned to the ASIA Office with the final report. In the case of a multi year project, a progress report will be required annually.
* All projects should be completed within the award period.
* Awardees are required to provide an article for publication in the ASIA Bulletin at the completion of the project.
* Acknowledgement of the G. Heiner Sell Research and Education Fund of the American Spinal Injury Association must be made if any publicity/ publications is forthcoming from an awarded project.
